IFCR 3150 HYDERABAD IN ACTION AT INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT AT SHOLAPUR,MAHARASHTRA
Dear Cricket Loving Rotarians,
Two teams from DIST 3150 took part in Rotary Cricket Festival held at Sholapur on 5th and 6th Jan 2007.The teams were named as Hyderabad (Reds) and Hyderabad (Blues).
Hyderabad (Blues) won the opening game of the festival by scoring a thrilling win over Thane ( Dist 3140 ) in a Group B encounter and Hyderabad (Reds) also registered a comfortable victory over Pune/Sholapur( Dist 3130) in a Group A game. Rtn.Vishal Srivastav and Rtn.Pankaj Agarwal from our District were declared "Man of the Match"for these two games.
Later continuing the Round robin format,Hyderabad (Blues) lost to Bangalore (Dist3170) and narrowly missed qualifying for the Semi-Finals from Group B on Net Run rate since Thane (who had earlier beaten Bangalore) and Bangalore(who finished with same number of points in the league format) qualified having a better Net run rate. Meanwhile Hyderabad(Reds) who were given a walk over by Mumbai team qualified for the semi-finals from Group A by topping the table along with Pune/Sholapur who were placed second in the Group.
In the semi-finals Hyderabad(Reds) lost to Bangalore and Thane lost to Pune/Sholapur.In the Finals Pune/Sholapur scored an emphatic victory over Bangalore to win the Tournament.
From the above it could be surmised that it was Topsy Turvy tournament with so many unpredictable results but it goes without saying that the EVENTUAL WINNER HAS BEEN THE FANTASTIC RECREATIONAL FELLOWSHIP amongst the 80 odd Rotarians inclusive of the organisers from the host Dist3130.The commitment levels of players on the field and the dedication of the organisers off the field was a factor of Great motivation for Rotary movement. It was amazing to see what a sport could contribute to further friendship and fellowship among Rotarians, cutting across Club/District/Zone levels which was clearly evident during the two fellowship nights held during the tournament which was attended by most of the local District officials including DG of RI Dist 3130 on the final day.
